Since I was seven I've been expressing myself from behind a keyboard. Some keyboards contain 88 keys, varying black and white; other times they contain little plastic squares with sarcastic tones like "ESCAPE", "DELETE" and "END". This is just an extension of that.
I like the astronomy picture... Oh, the post you linked.
ReplyDeleteRead it, not that impressed (as I commented there)

I love astronomy. Don't know much about its specifics. I think the thing that fascinates me the most is the space. Light years, and all that. I understand this is your area of expertise?
ReplyDeleteWhen we lived in Florida my daughter and I would go up on the roof of our house and look at the sky through her telescope. Now that we're in Virginia it's a little colder and our house is a little taller so...

ReplyDeleteI suppose it is... I've loved it since I was about 6 (maybe younger - all I know is I have a cut-out from our local newspaper of me, 6 years old with photo, asking for a telescope for my birthday) I’m not much of an astronomer though, my degree (as you know by now) is physics with astrophysics. Which means I can tell you how the stars work, but not where they are in the sky :-)
What amazes me about space and the distances, is that we are looking back in time. Our Sun 8.5 minutes, next nearest star 4 years... nearest spiral galaxy 2 million years - and THAT is our local neighbour. (Though, maybe some creationists would like to tell me I am mistaken :-)
Done you just love it…

Chris, you have some great discussion going on your blog! By the way, we need to schedule a time for you all to come over for dinner. (Remember when we had plans and had to change to dinner out b/c K had green stuff coming out of her nose?? We'll try to keep that from happening this time! LOL!)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, you on Facebook anymore? What's your email?

ReplyDeleteYes, that's exactly what I mean! We can look around the natural earth here and provide answers; but take a look at the universe, back in time, and that's just too much for me to get my head around.

No disagreement here.

ReplyDeleteOh that's right! I thought it was Sandy... hehehe
No more Facebook for me. My e-mail is

Hi CF
ReplyDeleteYes, that's exactly what I mean!
I’m glad we can find agreement :-)

I think you could handle it… I got my head around it, so it cannot be that hard.
The ‘answers’ science has provided have come from observing our ‘natural Earth’ and applying them to the observations through the telescope. It is amazing that we can do that… reminds me of a quote from Einstein…
“The most incomprehensible thing about the world is that it is at all comprehensible.”
RE: “... nearest spiral galaxy 2 million years - and THAT is our local neighbour. (Though, maybe some creationists would like to tell me I am mistaken :-)”
No disagreement here.
Thank goodness for that… you are not a young Earther then?

ReplyDeleteActually I am. I turn 33 this Saturday!!
No, I know what you mean. I'm not married to a particular idea. I would not consider myself a "Young Earther."

ReplyDeleteOh... happy birthday last week - sorry about that. I cannot sign up to this thread to follow it via e-mail so I missed this comment.

That's the spirit - me neither, I will change as the evidence directs.
This does beg the question though.
If you are ‘happy’ with the evidence for the Big Bang, 13.7 billion year old universe and all that, 4.5 billion year old Earth... then how can you take the bible literally on the topic of Adam and Eve? You do still reject evolution don’t you?
Oh, and as an aside – Billy is trying to start up a book club.
http://basketofpuppies-billy.blogspot.com/2009/01/book-club-idea.html
One of the books on the list of suggestive reading is “Making of the fittest”
I’ve just started reading it... very interesting.
Maybe you should come over and join the book club reading this book.
Each chapter will be read and discussed. Just think about it, you can ask any question that comes to you from any chapter and you might challenge evolution.
You and I may both learn something.
And if Billy does not know the answer to your question on evolution, I might agree that evolution has a problem :-)
The book for reading has not yet been decided, but if you joined in saying you will read this book, I am sure ‘we’ will win the vote.
